Just okay
We arrived around 2 p.m. and thought we’d go ahead and check in. We were informed the room was ready, but we’d have to pay $20 for early check-in. We declined and waited until 3 p.m. The bathroom was very small and there was a hook missing from the wall with the anchor for the screw showing. The tv remote was dead and had to be replaced, and the phone handset battery was dead and didn’t charge. Pretty basic set up in the room. We had to ask for a coffee maker for the room.

Many famous people used to stay here, back in the day. The hotel was originally built to very high standards and today it remains a beautiful, yet slightly aged princess. Do not expect a sterilized, cookie cutter hotel. This is a 1929 architectural jewel that has a small amount of tarnish and stain…if you are the kind of person who looks for it. Yet it retains much of the original Frank Sinatra and movie star elegance and charm. At affordable prices! Very clean. Housekeeping is daily and quite excellent if you remember to leave a generous tip on your unmade bed, each morning. We left $10 each day. Plush towels, soft carpet, spacious rooms- some with separate bedroom. Personally, I love this place. It is on a beautiful tree lined street in a neighborhood full of $$mansions. Very quiet. The Gold Coast is a very affluent Chicago neighborhood, a short walk to Michigan Avenue. Rooms are modern in many ways. Bring bubbles. Your bathtub will probably be vintage, very DEEP, and perfect for lounging. The tub might be a bit shorter than today’s standard length. Much deeper…the bubbles are definitely in order after a busy city day. I find the Ambassador to be a wonderful place to restore and refresh.

Great hotel. Only critique is there was a very large horrible looking stain on carpet on ninth floor hallway. Kind of looked like a crime scene. Need to replace ASAP.

We loved our stay at the Ambassador. Staff were wonderful. Room was spotless. Housekeeping was excellent. Great location for downtown attractions and beach area. The only downside was the hot water being a bit of a hit and a miss.

This is a great area to stay as it is in leafy street with lovely buildings around. The room was okay, view average but all amenities, great shower pressure and lift didn't take long. We had a corner room which was nice and roomy.

My husband and I had a dinner event to attend at Lincoln Park Zoo so this hotel was a convenient place in distance to stay overnight. When we arrived the staff greeted us very politely and were very welcoming which was nice. The hotel has an interesting history but the rooms are very outdated, bland and minimalistic. There is so much that could be done with the hotel in an effort to mirror its history. Famous people stayed and frequented this place so you would think they would use that to draw more attention to the hotel. The rooms and general areas are clean and the rooms are supplied well with towels, soap and tissues but no frills….management needs to remember, people staying in a hotel with character and near the Magnificent Mile should have some frills. Our room had a refrigerator but there was no coffee maker which would have been nice. Also you’ll need to leave the hotel to get something to eat or drink because there isn’t a shop to just grab a snack, they say there’s a snack room but there was only coffee available. I’m sure management thinks people are in Chicago to see the city and not the place they stay but having attractive rooms does add to the stay and wanting to return. All in all it wasn’t a memorable stay but okay.
