Great value for location! There is no coffee, wifi or fridge in the room. Wifi is pretty decent in common areas. Lots of seating on beach. Restaurant food was alright, but pricey as were drinks. Servers were all lovely.

Hotel is older but well maintained. It still retains some Mexican charm that many of the places have lost. Staff is attentive and pleasant. Junior suite has lots of room and having the kitchenette was nice with fridge and coffeemaker. Really enjoyed the balcony with great pool and ocean views. The sunsets were amazing. Very convenient location

We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. The pools are very clean and wonderful. The beach is clean and very nice as well. Some reviews say that only one pool is open, but now both pools are open. We had a room on the eighth floor that overlooked the ocean and it was absolutely gorgeous. The only thing that could’ve made better would be if there were refrigerators and microwaves in the rooms. It’s difficult even to drink cold water without having a refrigerator. It’s hard to bring leftovers without fridge. There are 2 convenience stores just steps outside the hotel. There are restaurants everywhere and markets very close. The Malecón is easily within walking distance. We would definitely stay again. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant. The hotel is in the romantic zone. The bus stop is just a few blocks away. The staff was always nice and helpful.

Great Location, basic hotel
The tropicana is located right on the beach, so the location is great. Some rooms are better than others, but most have a water view. The check in is always tedious, you have to pay a resort fee that is somehow unexplained, and if you one of your party is not there at check out, they will try to charge 300 pesos for not returning it. Just make sure that everyone goes to the front desk at the same time, or their process can't handle it.

We’ve been staying here for 25 years. Unfortunately, in that time they have not done room renovations. The toilet didn’t flush properly, the water went down slow on the shower (to the point where I turned the water off for a bit before it overflowed. Check in is usually a slow process. Other than that I can’t complain about anything else. Beds are comfortable.

Don’t get fooled by the beautiful pictures. They only two good aspects of this hotel is the location and the view. The place is composed of three tower buildings and several extensions put together with absolutely no planning and there is no coherence in the overall design. In fact, the whole place needs serious renovations. The very small parlor area, under one of the towers looks like a dumpster of old furniture and left-over building materials. The tower and the room we were in still looks and smells like 30 years ago. Our had a bad smell coming from the bathroom, particularly at night, and my mattress smelt of vinegar. We had really bad huevos rancheros at their restaurant which we definitely not recommended. The staff was nice and courteous enough. In short: we won’t return.

This is not a luxury resort. It does not pretend to be. But I've been coming here for probably 8 years and will continue for as long as I can. The location is perfect. Everything in old town is walking distance. The beach is beautiful. I do wish they'd rake it a bit more often, and the beach chairs could use some maintenance. The hotel is very clean. The people working there are nice and friendly. (Of course, I am friendly with them.) I don't usually eat there, so I won't comment on food. For what I pay, and the experience I get, this hotel is perfect. If you are looking for a boogie place, this is not it. If you are looking for a great place to experience Puerto Vallarta, this is it. Thank you Hotel Tropicana for another great stay!

Great Location, basic hotel
The location for the Tropicana is great, steps to some great restaurants and beach clubs. The hotel itself is a bit dated, but the staff is friendly enough. The beds were comfortable, and hot water was never an issue. One thing that does not work is wifi. If you require it on your stay, this is not the place to book. The "resort and/or cleaing fee" charged at check in is also a bit of an overcharge. Just include it in the price, or don't expect a tip at the end of the stay. I'm not sure what this fee is supposed to be for, no one could actually give a consistent explanation for it. It was either a tax, a cleaning fee, or resort user fee.

Some upper management at the front desk were very uncooperative when it came to exchanging money from larger pesos to smaller pesos. I wanted to leave more people a smaller tip and was unable to do because of this. They were very extremely dismissive.

PROS - • On the beach • Staff at beach access to ensure only guests were allowed onto property • Noemi and Jorje at front desk worked with me to resolve issues (no safe and no roll away bed) • Bell hops were wonderful • The housekeeping staff was awesome • Pool servers were attentive • Free water bottles were delivered and placed in bottle stand • Availability of an on-site restaurant CONS - • Very dated property RENTED A JUNIOR SUITE AND - • Safe didn't operate • No clock/alarm clock • Only coffee mugs no other glassware • Minimal kitchen utensils, plates and bowls • Minimal stovetop cookware • No knife block with sharp knives • No dish soap • Only one small kitchen towel • No paper towels BATHROOM • Minimal linens POOL AREA • Pool water was nasty and was finally cleaned a week into our stay • Limited pool deck space and loungers • No policing / cleaning up trash on pool deck • Loungers are in terrible shape • Loungers were crowded together making it difficult to get into/out of them • Would only issue one towel per person and many towels were tattered and torn • Second pool closed and being updated/retiled • Construction noise all day long with drills and other equipment MISCELLANEOUS ISSUES • Restaurant and front desk staff requested tips

We loved being in the new part of the hotel and having a little balcony looking into the ocean. Our room was very quiet except for the crashing of the waves! The hotel is located close to the Malecon and there were lots of dining options.

The hotel was very comfortable for our Halloween staycation. The room was big and clean with clean and serviceable linens. We had a nice ocean view with a balcony to sit and listen to the waves. The common areas were well maintained and presentable for the most part but the pool that was opened definitely needed some TLC which seems to be planned with one pool closed for renovations. There were excessive missing tiles and the pool seemed to get very murky as the day went on. Hoping to stay again next year to see the upgrades.
