Getting Around

Your best bet for seeing all Panama City has to offer is reserving a rental car. This will allow you to get from the beach to dinner in a hurry, and saves you the trouble of walking. The city doesn't offer many public transportation options, although there is a local trolley, as well as bicycle rentals around town.

Best time to Visit

Panama City really only has two clearly defined seasons: wet and dry, with temperatures reaching the low 80s°F all year round. You probably think the dry season seems more appealing, and you're certainly not alone in that. It runs from January to April and sees the highest influx of visitors. But if you're keen to save money and you don't mind getting caught in a few downpours every day, travel in the wet season of May through December.

What to Pack

Visiting Panama City at any time of year means embracing the summer wholeheartedly, so pack your loudest lightweight shirts, your most summery shorts, and your sandals. Besides that, you'll need:

  • Formal clothes: Make like the locals and get as dressy as you can when you go out for dinner. Feels good, doesn't it?
  • Insect repellent: Insects love Panama, with its hot weather and humidity. Don't give them the satisfaction of ruining your trip.
  • Water bottle: Be kind to the environment by keeping a refillable water bottle with you at all times. Otherwise you'll get through several bottles a day.
