The city of Sedona is ideal for walking around in, as it's quite small. However, you'll want a car to explore the area to the fullest. Rent a vehicle to beat extreme temperatures or to motor off to remote hiking destinations. There is a local bus that comes through town every hour, but you'll be able to make more of the trip with your own set of wheels.
First time to the desert? Pack for warm days and surprisingly cool nights. Don't stay huddled indoors when the sun sets. Grab a jacket, head outside and look up-the stars are magnificent. Also bring:
Sedona has a classic desert climate, with summers seriously hotting up from June onward and winters that are cool but not cold. In July and August, daytime high temperatures can average in the mid 90s°F. We say opt for spring or fall for the most consistently pleasant weather, but remember to bring a sweater and possibly a jacket for those chilly desert nights. January daytime highs linger in the mid 50s°F on average.
