Best time to Visit

It's all summer, all the time in Punta Cana, even when it's not actually summer. The year-round temperature, with averages at roughly 80°F, creates a laid-back vacation vibe in any season. Between June and October temperatures are a little higher. Winter is high season, bringing with it more tourists, so aim to come between March and May instead and you should be able to make some savings.

What to Pack

Every season is swimsuit season in Punta Cana, so that's packing item is a no-brainer. There are a few other items that are definitely useful to have on you when you arrive. We suggest:

  • Beachwear you can wear on the street: Think maxi dresses, panama hats and shorts that can be dressed down with a T-shirt or dressed up with button-down.
  • Sunscreen: This is one of the essential Puna Cana items, even if you're planning on working on your tan. The sun doesn't mess around here.
  • Sneakers: Sandals are great for the beach, but they won't get you far if you decide to take part in one of the many outdoor activities offered.
Getting Around

In Punta Cana itself, getting around by taxi is a popular choice. But there's also something to be said for relying on the power of your own two feet; Punta Cana is beautiful and the weather's amazing, so why not? To travel further afield, use the local buses, or rent a car at the airport or in town. Be warned, however, that other drivers here can be unpredictable. Motorcycle taxis offer the cheapest, fastest option but come with safety risks.
