What you can expect

Discover the diverse highlights in southern Sri Lanka with this full-day tour of significant historical, cultural, and natural sites. Gain a sense of colonial history in Galle, witness remarkable river wildlife, and walk through a mask museum—all deepening your awareness of this fascinating region.

Begin with a journey to Balapitiya and enjoy a boat trip on the shallow waters of the Maduganga River, cruising by mangroves and looking out for the many endemic species of plants and animals, such as small alligators. Then stop at a nearby island for a refreshment. Here, learn more about the area's delicate ecosystem.

En route to Galle, stop in at a mask factory at Ambalangoda to admire the decorative masks and learn more about their cultural use in depicting various aspects of Sri Lankan life. Continue on to Galle, where the Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the nearby Old Town do much to teach the colonial history of the city.

Return to your hotel via Kosgoda and its important turtle sanctuary. The conservation work done here by volunteers and local people is vital for the protection of this valuable turtle-nesting site.
