Borgarfjordur is a fjord and a valley, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, many interesting sites to visit. This area is also less crowded by tourists. We go early from Reykjavík and stop briefly in a town called Borgarnes. Our first scenic stop on this tour is at Hraunfossar Waterfalls. This waterfall is quite picturesque because the water has an unbelievable blue color and is squeezed out from the black lava. From Hraunfossar we will take a short walk to another waterfall with a very tragic story behind its name. This waterfall is called Barnafoss or the Children’s waterfall. From there we drive onward to Húsafell a small village for an early lunch (lunch not included in the price). According to Forbes magazine Húsafell is the best kept secret in in Iceland and an absolute gem. After lunch we drive on to Reykholt where our famous historian, poet and politician Snorri Sturluson lived during the middle ages. His house and farm in Reykholt are well-preserved and there you can even see his private outside geothermal hot tub. From Reykholt we drive the short distance to another hot spring, Deildartunguhver, that is way too hot to bathe in. This impressing hot spring is now used to heat houses e.g. in Borgarnes. It is a beautiful natural site that gives a good outlook on the powers of the Icelandic nature. At the end of an eventful day we stop at Stedji Brewery. This is a family owned small brewery and we learn about the making of their beer and taste their special Icelandic beers. Stedji has specialized in local Icelandic beers e.g. the Northern lights beer, Smoked beer and even the controversial Whale beer. This is our last stop on this tour and we will return back in Reykjavík around 16:30. Guidance in German and English.
