Distance to Outside Lands: Located just over 1 mile to the south entrance at Golden Gate Park, where the festival is held.
What’s cool about this hotel: Start your festival day off right with a cup of joe from your in-room coffee maker. Walk out your door and into the sea breeze: You’ll be right across the street from Ocean Beach. There’s free parking, but get there early — it’s first come, first served.
Transport tips: Hop on the N-line, which stops right outside the hotel, and ride a few stops to Judah St and Sunset Blvd. Then it’s just a 10-minute, half-mile walk.
Stanyan Park Hotel
Distance to Outside Lands: It’s a little over 2 miles to either entrance of the festival.
What’s cool about this hotel: On the eastern edge of Golden Gate Park, this historic hotel looks like a Victorian mansion and includes deluxe amenities like a free “to-go” breakfast bag, if you’d like to eat while you explore before the festival. Did we mention turndown service with freshly baked cookies? It’s like staying at your grandma’s, but way cooler.
Transport tips: Order a rideshare, or walk 5 minutes south to Carl St and Stanyan St to hop on the N-line. Take it west to Judah St and Sunset Blvd, and you’ll be at the gates after a 10-minute stroll.
Hotel Zetta
Distance to Outside Lands: You’ll be 5 miles from the main entrance.
What’s cool about this hotel: Located in the SoMa neighborhood and decorated by local SF artists, hotels for Outside Lands don’t get hipper than the Zetta. Power up with your in-room espresso maker and order a pint at the on-site British pub before heading to the festival. After it’s over, the party continues at popular club MEZZANINE, just a 5-minute walk away.
Transport tips: Walk 15 minutes southwest on Market St to Bill Graham Civic Auditorium to catch the shuttle, or hop on the BART at Powell Street, a 5-minute walk, and get off at Civic Center. Purchase your shuttle pass or BART tickets before you head to the festival.
The Phoenix Hotel
Distance to Outside Lands: You’ll be slightly over 4 miles from the main entrance.
What’s cool about this hotel: Fuel up for the festival at weekend brunch, served on the poolside patio from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wind down with a nightcap at the bar, open until 2 a.m. on weekends. Or head out to post-festival shows at Rickshaw Stop and MEZZANINE, both under a mile away.
Transport tips: It’s just four blocks to the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, about an 8-minute walk. Catch the official festival shuttle and let the good times roll. Don’t forget to buy your shuttle pass ahead of time!

Distance to Outside Lands: You’re about 3.5 miles from the main entrance on the north side of Golden Gate Park.
What’s cool about this hotel: There’s free Wi-Fi, free breakfast and free self-parking. Rooms have fridges for drinks and microwaves for snacks — perfect for fueling your festival day.
Transport tips: You’re just a 10-minute walk from Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, where you can catch the festival shuttle. You’ll need to purchase a pass separately. Days Inn is also just a third of a mile from Rickshaw Stop and 1 mile from The Independent, two venues that are likely to host Outside Lands Night Shows for the 2020 festival.

All about Outside Lands Festival
Where is Outside Lands Festival?
The Outside Lands location is right in the middle of San Francisco, in Golden Gate Park. The main stage is at Polo Field and the festival stretches east to Crossover Drive. The area used to be called Outside Lands because of its inaccessibility due to lack of roads and prominence of sandy soil and beach dunes. In the late 1800s, the state approved the transformation of what was once Outside Lands to Golden Gate Park.
When did Outside Lands start?
Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, or OSL Festival, started in 2008 as a three-day festival. It was the first event allowed in Golden Gate Park after dark, and Radiohead headlined the very first year. By 2016, tickets were selling out in 45 minutes, and it’s only grown from there. Day 2 of the 2019 festival broke previous years’ attendance records: Almost 100,000 people came to see their favorite artists — from Paul Simon to Twenty One Pilots to blink-182.
Where is there to eat at Outside Lands?
There are tons of local food trucks and carts at OSL that you have to try! Some can’t-miss items from past years were chicken and waffles, doughnut sundaes, avocado fries, banh mi, beer sausage, crab nachos … we could go on. But you should just try them all for yourself.
