We enjoyed a fabulous 4 night stay at Kayon Valley. The staff were all very attentive (we’d seen previous reviews mentioning being badgered by staff at breakfast about plans for the day with a ‘salesy’ slant but we found this not to be the case). Staff just wanted the guests to know what the hotel itself and surrounding area had to offer (free guided walks/free shuttles to and from Ubud centre, spa treatments, local attractions etc). We did not find it pushy (but can understand that others might) but clearly something the hotel management had instilled in its staff. Perhaps this could be eased off a little.
Other than some very minor picky points (nowhere to hang hand towels, interior hall light switch being on the outside of the room, annoying bonfires making it untenable to enjoy the balcony at times) it was very well done. The safe in our room didn’t work but once we reported it, that was quickly remedied.
The food was excellent, the monkeys that visit most mornings were cheeky and the welcome was very hospitable. They chime a gong when new guests arrive which is a nice touch.
Great entertainment with local dances and a very talented duo of keyboard and vocals. If we’re back in Ubud, we’ll certainly stay here again.
