Tired!!
Room was the outermost place of all so very high up and isolated. Felt I would have been a bit uncomfortable with that and if travelling alone tbh. Therefore many stairs to climb and very windy at night made it impossible to sleep as single pane old glass and loud. Room was dirty and needed updating. The shower and mirror height were ridiculous unless your are five feet six. Mattress seemed like a cheap Argos child’s mattress and pillows were hard. Sounds like a lot doesn’t it but even though we were going cheaper, we just expected to sleep and be clean which didn’t happen. Wouldn’t stay again. The only positive was the breakfast which had a great selection on offer.

This is a delightful, old fashioned hotel with a real sense of history. I stayed in two different single rooms, both individually decorated, with comfortable beds, hot showers and a bath which filled at record speed! There was a very good choice for breakfast and after going through the revolving doors the whole town was in easy walking distance. It was very convenient to be able to pay £5 a day for parking behind the hotel too. Would definitely recommend and visit again. The only disappointment was that there wasn't a lift - my 90 year old mum would have loved to have stayed here.

This hotel is an extremely old property with lots of character. The staff are friendly and breakfast is good with a vegan and gluten free option. However it does need some upgrading. All the carpets were extremely worn especially on the stairs. Our room was tired and the bathroom needed changing. The window frames were flaking but the view was good as we were on the 3rd floor. Its a shame because the hotel is in a good position in the town.

The property is very old and full of character. The bedroom was very spacious. The bathroom is a bit dated and could do with modernising but the shower was easy to adjust the temperature and was powerful but a bit limited to adjust the direction of the fixture. The room was spotless and had great views towards nelsons column. The breakfast was really nice, being included in the price, pastries, yoghurt, cereals and a full cooked breakfast on order and served to you. The staff were really friendly. The location is very convenient within the town . Parking is good but it got a-bit busy for the flower show, but so was everywhere else. I would definitely return. It is only a breakfast option, but Shrewsbury has so many eateries for dinner on your doorstep, so no worries there.

Honest and fair review.
Very tired building but charming at the same time, good comfy beds and usual amenities in the room. Good location and most of the staff were friendly. We were out most of the days so it didn’t entirely matter to us about the decor etc. Breakfast was probably the best part of our stay- lots of variety and the staff were lovely. The negative for us has got to be the shower- extremely low pressure (fired out a splash at best) and was either freezing or piping hot. Asked the staff for suggestion, got told it would be handed over to day staff. Day staff hadn’t had it handed over to them so were unaware. They came to look at it and said it had already had a replacement part fitted which cost the hotel £300! They said there was nothing they could do and suggested it was because we were the 1st room next to the water tank, then said it’s because of other people using the shower (1st tried at 2am so I hardly believe many guests were showering at that time) they concluded by suggesting we have a bath- no thank you I’m afraid. Had to skip showers and wash hair in the sink. Towels stunk and had a stain on- replacements were offered. We didn’t let it ruin our stay as we had a lovely time in Shrewsbury however it did put a dampen on it. Thank you to the helpful staff- I know they are limited to what they can do and it is not a reflection of their service.

As an old building it had several stairs to negotiate. One set was right outside the room. The bathroom was adequate but rather dated and had a large window that faced the main street. It had frosted glass but also a roller blind to give some privacy. The room was right above the access to the rear car parking area, which guests could use for a charge of £5 per night. The breakfast was excellent, with a full unrestricted choice of cereals, croissants, toast, fruit, etc or cooked breakfasts. The old period decor downstairs was quite magnificent: this would make a great film set!

The hotel has a wonderful and interesting history putting it physically and literally at the heart of the town. The staff were a really some of the best I have met in a hotel. Helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Although the hotel was quite 'ttired' I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Tired and run down, needs a serious revamp as windows don’t shut, rusted up. Threadbare carpets in main area and corridors . Room was clean and staff worked well and were very pleasant. Needs serious money spending as it’s a popular tourist town and this is not a good overall impression .
