When we were driving to the hotel I read quite a few bad reviews about the place that made us anxious to stay, but when we got there I was pleasantly surprised. We arrived to the front door that was locked only to later learn that they keep it locked for the safety of the guests & when you check in they give you a code for the front door. This is a huge plus because the surrounding area does have a homeless population which is a given in the city, but no one bothered us. As long as you leave the homeless alone, they leave you alone. We checked in & while my boyfriend was moving the car to a parking garage nearby, the front desk clerk, Punya checked me in & he was a delight, my boyfriend & I actually looked forward to telling him about our excursions at the bar & whatever we needed, he was there to help with a smile on his face. After checkin, we took our things up & even though there’s no AC (& the hotel does inform you of this when you book so we didn’t have a problem) they did supply us with a fan that actually worked really well, we stayed in the middle of August & even got cold at night with the fan on. I saw a lot of reviews complaining about noise, & there were sirens every so often, but I’ve lived in the city so it didn’t bother me one bit, but they do supply earplugs if need be. The biggest complaint I noticed was the breakfast which includes apples, muffins & yogurt, but honestly I didn’t mind at all, I was happy to eat at new places. I highly recommend Hotel Bijou!

The hotel was nice and staff really helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, one of our rooms didn’t have hot water, there was no air conditioning in either of our rooms and no windows to open. The hotel is surrounded by homeless people and hets very noisy overnight. The very good location however made our stay still enjoyable

No AC which we were told about. No food, no bar, just a small room. The room was clean and that’s all we used the hotel for. It’s in the tenderloin so don’t expect much from the surrounding area.

If you’re not familiar with San Francisco, then you wouldn't know this "boutique hotel near union square" that's just down the street from a Hilton, is on the edge of the tenderloin district, there are homeless people camped on either side of the doorway. The sidewalk outside is stained black and stinks from urine, just on the other side of the street from the hotel is what was apparently an open air drug market where a dealer sat all night until about 5 AM playing a boombox at maximum volume. the hotel itself was built I guess around 1907 after the quake and fire, there is no air conditioning in the building. A fact which is not advertised at all so your choices are to open the window, listen to the drug dealer, his boombox & a pimp beating his hookers, while smelling the urine soaked street below or leaving the windows closed and suffocating. the hotel did provide a large box fan which in small space of the hotel room sounded about as loud as a jet engine. There is a small lobby with a small bar area, The room itself seemed clean, decently sized the bathroom featured a large claw foot tub, the shower diverter wasn't hooked up properly so using the diverter resulted in water spraying out of the back of the tub faucet. Housekeeping never came, never remade the bed or changed the towels. from the pictures This should be a really nice hotel, clearly it is poorly run. DO NOT STAY HERE. we would have changed hotels but there were 50K people like us visiting SF for a sold out show

I booked this room for my birthday and was so excited for the experience, but it completely let me down. The hotel is in probably the worst part of San fran, homeless are everywhere. And there’s actual human feces in the street. Right in there front there’s a homeless encampment which looks to be a permanent residence. When looking up hotels, the bijou says parking is on site, which it is not. You have to park clocks down and they have no kind of affiliation with the hotel. The room esthetic was actually very nice, but also in the pictures it showed soaps in the soap dispensers. In our shower there were no soaps at all just the silver dispensers. All we had for soap was a little hand soap and makeup removers. The room itself was warm, there was no ac but the window was able to open for fresh air. But with that, we got to hear the ambiance of screaming and homeless yelling at each other all night. They do provide earplugs in the room for your convienance. Continental breakfast is a muffin or apple with coffee, tea or water. Not continental at all. And there’s no actual bar, it’s a beautiful dining room. The staff were very nice, the esthetic was nice. But Don’t let the pictures fool you and stay elsewhere For the price point you get what you get.

I would not recommend this Property. Location of this property is in the red light district. Not a safe area. Reminds me of skid row in LA. Parking is a block away from property. In this neighborhood, not a good idea. I booked this room because of how beautiful the inside looks. Wish I could say the same about the outside. My wife and I did not feel comfortable staying in that area. We ended up booking a hotel in another part of the city.

Since it was right next to the street where homeless people were staying, it was kind of unsafe and noisy. Their breakfast was only a limited items available. Workers were nice though.

I like the boutique environment of the hotel. Also like the implementation of the codes used for accessing the hotel and rooms. Staff members were very accommodating. Negatives having to use ear plugs every night due to the amount of drugged up homeless people on the streets 24/7. Not a very safe place around that area.

Its a nice hotel located in the center of Downtown SF. Really nice hotel with excellent staff. Of course can't blame them for the surrounding area, the homeless and dirty streets. If you can deal with the con editions of the city itself, this hotels a great choice

Nice hotel dreadful area
This hotel is nice enough, the condition is fine, breakfast was quite basic with just muffins and apples and coffee but it was fine for me as I was working. Unfortunately, the hotel is let down by the area which is just dreadful. There was constant noise, all night for the three nights that I stayed there with people shouting outside, playing music and outside were so many homeless people and the area stank of urine. I did not feel safe walking outside the hotel at night although I did in the daytime. There were very obvious drug deals going on right outside my window. Unfortunately, the room was not well soundproofed and although I was provided with earplugs which did work, I did not get a great night sleep . I’m sorry to leave such a negative review as the staff were really nice and the hotel is in great condition so if you don’t mind the noise it’s a fine place to stay but I suspect there are other places who can offer a similar level of accommodation without the outside issues .

Some problems
A small hotel with small rooms that have been nicely remodeled. No daily housekeeping, dicely location, one staff members was not very professional (others were fine), the continental breakfast had me looking to eat elsewhere after one day, no AC and no top sheet on the bed. Spend a little more to stay somewhere nicer is my advice.
