Disliked: Staff & service
Having stayed at the hotel same time of year in 2022, this was not the level I came to expect.
This year we came to NYC for my mother's 60th birthday. We booked a SoHi suite for 2 nights. I had communicated with the hotel in advance that we would like to have a nice welcome in the room - in other 5-star hotels this is a bouquet of flowers, fresh pastries, or something unique to the city. These hotels also typically ask for a budget to fulfill these requests - this wasn't the case with The Dominick. They did not ask for a budget and said they would do something "extra" special.
I was very disappointed when we checked-in to the room. Not only was it lacking a welcome gift, the guest washroom had brown/black stains around the sink. I went to the front desk and asked them about the "extra" special gesture that was promised. Shon was very kind and said they needed more time and that it would be delivered in the evening. A few hours later I opened the door and was presented with 3 cupcakes that you could buy at a supermarket...very underwhelming and not "extra" special. Once again I went down to the front desk and expressed the lack of effort. This time the manager was came and said this is their standard birthday gesture. I had no issue with standard but I was expecting more and would happily pay for it if it was an option. The manager seemed to agree and said someone would call me the day after to arrange something "extra' special. On our final day we did not receive a call.
