We enjoyed 4 nights here. The staff were absolutely lovely. Always greeted with a smile and always willing to help with any request. The room was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast varried and good quality. The pool area was very relaxing and free towels and changing facilities provided. On the final morning we were unfortunately unable to have breakfast as our flight time was changed. This was no problem for the staff who provided a lovely breakfast for us all to take with us at 5.30am. A porter was also waiting to take our bags from the bedroom without even requesting this. An excellent experience, thank you lovely Hotel Shanker staff.

Oasis of tranquility
Hotel Shanker is a oasis of tranquility in the crazy, exciting city of Kathmandu. Its 15mins walk to the tourist, shopping, social hub of Thamel and walk to Durbar square is possible. The hotel is and old Rana residence and is a very special building. Beautiful reception, staircase and comfortable, spacious rooms. We loved the huge chouce at buffet breakfast and we ate many times at the hotel where prices are reasonable. If you want to be in the middle of the craziness, this isnt the hotel for you. But if you, like us, want a calm, cool place to really relax after a hot, crazy day in the centre, then the pool area and hotel comforts are just the job. I LOVED this hotel and after sightseeing and culture overload, really felt that i was on a pool holiday. Coming back here after our trek was such a treat.

The hotel is centrally situated, allowing one to walk to many places of interest, shopping and restaurants. It is also a heritage hotel providing a nostalgic experience. Rooms and the hotel has been renovated nicely (I was there in 2016). Could improve in the breakfast served.
