Best hotel in the area
Great hotel with nice rooms and an amazing spa. Fantastic golf course at the doorstep. Good restaurant with excellent a la carte food and good wine selection. Service at the restaurant was great. The service at the huge bar quite slow and inattentive.

Nice facilities and atmosphere
Great sauna and swimming pool area, although the pool is a bit small. Restaurant and bar areas are very nicely done with lots of wooden beams and panelling making it feel very cosy.

Good base for exploring Chiemgau
Very friendly staff at reception, main hotel complex up to date. Haus Kampenwand however not up to the standard which could be expected from a 4 star hotel (with room with a broken door lock and wall corners requiring plastering from earlier collisions with luggage). Hotel staff not aware that information materials on the rooms are outdated and still refer to time before renovation (with a traditional Bavarian Zirbelstuben restaurant)

I needed to pay another EUR 20/per day to be placed in the hotel. The booking for standard room is actually in a motel beside the hote. This is not mentioned when you book your room. Most of the hotel is under construction and there are many hazards that are ignored. I dont know how are they allowed to operate during construction. TV was off for the entire stay (cable was probably cut by construction). You expect to pay 60EUR for such conditions not 160EUR....

Total disappointment
Definitely not a 4 star hotel not even 3. The standard room I rented was outside the main hotel in a motel like setting. The access to the building was through a construction zone with uneven ground and obstacles. The building hallway was dirty (perhaps never vacuumed), the walls were dirty as well. The hotel television was not working on any of the 4 days of my stay. Limited dinner menu choices and very expensive compared to other restaurants in the surrounding area. Only good part of this experience is the breakfast. I will not go there again, there are plenty of gasthouses around at half that price.

Sporthotel Achental in Grassau, Germany
Very nice hotel with an accomodating staff. Two items of concern to Americans. First, they do not have an ice machine that is readily available to people staying at the hotel. They did offer to get ice from the kitchen, but it was inconvenient. Second, their internet access charges are exorbitant. It's 17 Euros for 24 hours of access or 8 Euros for one hour of access. This was worse than our hotel in Munich and totally unreasonable.

WE ARRIVED AT AN "OFF SEASON" TIME WHEN THERE WEREN'T MANY GUESTS, SO ALL FACILITIES WEREN'T FULLY OPEN. THERE WAS A LOT OF SNOW AND ICE. BREAKFAST WAS EXCELLENT. DIRECTIONS COULD BE BETTER BECAUSE "GRASSAU" ISN'T ON A LL MAPS. HOTEL IS LARGE AND CATERS TO METINGS LIKE BMW & SIEMENS. ROOMS WERE LARGE FOR EUROPE, WITH NICE BATHROOM/TUB.

A very large hotel, though built in traditional chalet style. Attractive views of the mountains. Well kept, though bedroom we had was starting to look in need of modernisation. Extremely good dinner and breakfast in the main restaurant. Convenient if unable to obtain a hotel in Prien: only a few miles away and surrounding views are probably better.

Das Achtentalresort ist ein sehr schönes Hotel, ruhig gelegen und bietet viel Komfort. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und man versucht alle Wünsche zu erfüllen. Das gebuchte Zimmer sollte eine Klimaanlage haben, dies war nicht der Fall, obwohl bei expedia angegeben ist dass alle Zimmer eine Klimaanlage haben. Wir reklamierten das Zimmer und bekammen ein neues Zimmer mit Klimaanlage. Das Hauskeeping war leider nachlässig, wir mussten jeden Tag Dinge reklamieren, da Handtücher, Gläser vergessen wurden oder die Badewanne nicht sauber gemacht worden war. Man entschuldigte sich dafür und gab Personalmangel und Krankenstand als Grund an. Die Restaurants im Hotel sind sehr gut, besonders den weißen Hirschen und das Sternerestaurant essenz möchte ich positiv hervorheben.
