Mermaid’s Grotto Family Friendly Home with Playground, Steps from the Beach

Our family friendly beach home getaway can be your family getaway too! Just steps from the beach, it has everything you need to enjoy your trip. We've also recently renovated!

The home layout has a large living and dining area at the front of the home, which has a large selection of games and a TV with local channels and a Fire Stick for streaming. Then you walk into a large functional stocked kitchen, great for cooking or serving a meal, has a coffee maker and tea kettle, and a full compliment of cookware and dishes. Then towards the back of the home are 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms. The first bedroom is a great kids room with two sets of bunk beds, and also a bed rail should one of the sleepers need a little extra support to stay in the bed. The hallway has a closet with puzzles and books for the family. The shared bathroom is spacious with a tub and shower, a large counter and sink, a kids friendly potty, and a stool for little ones to more easily reach the faucet. The second bedroom hosts a queen bed with nightstands and a dresser chest and its own TV. The third bedroom is the master, also with a queen bed, and has a dresser, nightstand and TV. The master also has an attached bathroom that hosts a shower, sink, and ample counter space for your things.

All bedrooms have Dohm sleep sound machines (with various soundscapes) for a peaceful nights rest, table lamps, easily accessible power outlets with USB ports, and ceiling fans.

The best part of the house is the covered deck off the dining area that hosts a seating area with some views of the water. It often has a great breeze and is in the shade after the early morning hours. There is a second uncovered deck that is shaded in the morning for your tea or coffee time.

A huge bonus for kids and families is the great play area in the backyard. It has 3 swings, a swinging buoy, a climbing wall, rope wall, stairs, a lookout point, and a large slide. There is a large open space for yard games and plenty of space under the home to be shaded on the hot days.

The home has some beach gear available outside that guests can borrow (or leave unwanted gear for other guests). The selection of items changes, so be sure to bring your favorite gear as well.

Perfect beach vacation house for a family
The house was a perfect distance from the beach, just a short walk. The house was very clean and well furnished. It was fully equipped with everything needed for cooking and playing inside and outside. The host was great, very responsive and kind. Would highly recommend this place and would stay here again.

PERFECT Family spot
This rental made our family spring break beach trip SO EASY. The playground was sturdy, clean and well maintained and thoroughly enjoyed by our 2 and 7 year old. The wagon, beach toys, showers, and proximity to a nice quiet beach made this rental so valuable and loved! The house was incredibly clean and was stocked with clean dishes, utensils and all the little kitchen things you would need if you wanted to whip up some quick easy meals for picky kids. All the time and consideration of things a family with young kids would would need was much noted and appreciated. We loved everything and we would definitely stay again!

Great place to stay with kids!
I picked Mermaid Grotto specifically because of the playscape in the back yard. With a family of four kids, ranging in age from 8 to 2, we needed something to keep them all occupied. My only complaint is that the fence around the yard has a few gaps between fence posts that need to be replaced and the gate is missing. When we arrived Friday evening, there was an ant pile under one of the swings on the swing set. I reached out to Jeremy who quickly came to the rescue with some fire ant killer that we put out and rid ourselves of the pesky buggars. The rooms all had noise machines, fans, and there was even a booster seat for our toddler for the table. The sofa in the living room with the chaise lounge pulls out and makes a massive couch-bed. There were loads of games and even toys for toddlers. I was a little disappointed when I got there as I thought the view as advertised had been obstructed by housing. It wasn’t until the next morning when I stepped out onto the outdoor patio the next morning that I saw it. The swath of blue ocean and rolling waves. Although we couldn’t hear them over the howling winds, I could see them. Overall, my ONLY complaints are the bed in the master bedroom is terribly hard, and the mattress on the bottom bunk next to the door in the bunk room, is extremely noisy. Every time my daughter would roll over, we’d hear it. It’s not nearly enough to deter me from staying here again, hopefully soon! I love that its distance away from the seawall.

Great place for families
We enjoyed our stay! The house was an easy walk to the beach. It was clean and as described. It had everything you need for little kids, so we didn’t have to bring books, toys, etc. Be aware that there are no kitchen staples (salt, oil, etc.), so bring everything you need if you plan to cook, but otherwise the kitchen had all of the appliances and dish-ware we needed.

Short Family Vacation to Pirate’s Beach
Family trip with two small grandsons. Accommodations were perfect. The outdoor spaces were comfortable in this Texas heat. The kitchen is well equipped for any cooking. Also included was a Weber grill. The house was clean and comfortable. Pirate’s Beach is a perfect place for a family. Just a short walk to a very clean, uncrowded beach. Will definitely recommend this house for a family.

Perfect for family!
The house was setup perfectly for children 3 and under. The kids were able to play on the playground while we prepared meals or the beach. The property owner was responsive with any needs or questions. Distance from town was great as it cut down on crowd size but short enough for quick trips to store or restaurants. Definitely recommend to our family and friends.

Great holiday weekend!
We had a lovely time at The Mermaid Grotto over the holiday weekend. The house was supplied with everything we needed, clean, comfortable and great location. Our son really enjoy all the toys that are kept stocked there for the kids, and we loved that there was a sound machine and night light in the bunk room for the kids who stay there. We had a great breeze and shade on the deck so it was perfect for relaxing in the evenings. Can’t ask for much more! Thank you!

Super clean and comfortable. Fantastic playground. Only thing I would add is an outside shower. House has everything you would need. Bring all your seasonings, sugar, tea and coffee. You could walk barefoot inside and end up with clean feet. Clean fresh linens and towels. Bring your own beach towels. AC works great. We loved it. TV’s in all rooms work perfectly.

We LOVED it!
This was our first time ever renting a beach house. I spent hours looking for the right place that fit all the criteria. Mermaid's Grotto met all of them, and even more. The place is so clean, kid and family oriented, and just lovely all around. Jeremy is incredibly nice and responds right away to any questions or concerns you may have. The beach access was exactly what we wanted, walking distance and private for us to enjoy with my 8 month old baby. We will definitely be back in the near future. Thank you for our lovely stay!
