Once the capital of the British Gold Coast, there's a lot of history to enjoy here, not to mention a dynamic cultural scene and exciting nightlife. Flights to Accra touch down at Kotoka International Airport (ACC), which is conveniently located in the center of Accra, Ghana's largest city.
Transportation from ACC
Several hotels can be found in downtown Accra within a 10-minute drive west of ACC. Many of these hotels provide transit to their premises from the airport. Get in touch with your hotel before your arrival to determine your best option for transportation. It is possible to rent a car from one of a number of agencies that operate out of ACC, but driving in Accra can be confusing and potentially treacherous for foreigners, so you may be better off relying on taxis and public transit. If you're hiring a cab, be sure to find the official taxi stand to ensure that you get a regulated fare, unless you're very confident in your haggling skills! Most taxis in Accra can be identified by their four yellow or orange fenders (the rest of the car is often painted another color). Once you're squared away at your hotel, step out to explore Accra. Get your history fix at the National Museum of Ghana, or brave the crowds at Makola Market for some of the best souvenirs around. You should also stop by Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and then get a taste of paradise at nearby Bojo Beach.
