Doves Rest Cabins - Goodnight cabin on the west rim

Our most private and secluded Doves Rest Cabin. This amazing stone cabin is named in honor of Charles Goodnight, the legendary cattle rancher and inventor of the old-west chuckwagon. Goodnight took advantage of available grass, timber, and water near this cabin, and in 1876 founded what was to become the first Texas Panhandle ranch – the JA Ranch at Palo Duro Canyon. One of the best features of the fantastic view from this cabin is the interplay of sights of high and low mesa steeps on how Charles Goodnight entered the canyon with hundreds of Longhorn cattle. Located a mere 100-feet from the state park boundary, Goodnight Cabin is the perfect for the most discriminating guests who enjoy interweaving historical perspectives of the old-west with the modern luxury of a Doves Rest Cabin.

Our very favorite place to stay when visiting Palo Duro Canyon. You can’t beat the amazing views and proximity to the park entrance. It is always spotless and we have everything we need while there. The hot tub is a perfect way to end the day after many hours of hiking and biking. Highly recommend!

I am hesitant to give this review because I selfishly I don’t want the secret to get out about the Goodnight Cabin. Quite and relaxing are the best description with unrivaled views of Palo Duro Canyon. Do yourself a favor and unwindin the rim of the cabin.

Everything was just as described on their listing. We celebrated our 40th Anniversary while here. The hosts were so kind, along with their wine and souvenir glasses they also brought us roses and goodies. The views were spectacular, wish we could have added pictures to this review. What an amazing property. We stayed here for 4 nights and could not have asked for a better experience. The property itself is immaculate and supplied with everything you could need. It is such a short trip into the Canyon park! We hiked and biked every day and then spent some time exploring around the house area after we got back. Never a dull moment. The hot tub felt amazing each evening after getting back from a fun day down in the Canyon. We can’t wait to come back!

A magical couples getaway
As the title states, this place is magical and serene. It is well kept, nicely appointed and quiet. If you are looking to get away with your significant other, I would highly recommend this cabin. We saw mule deer and goats in their natural habitat. The cabin also came with plenty of firewood and instructions to use their fireplace. We felt right at home. Thank you to the owners and staff for offering the opportunity to stay at this beautiful property. We will be back!

Way better than the photos! So quiet and relaxing. Less than 20 minutes from a grocery store in Canyon. Less than 5 minutes from Palo Duro Canyon State Park entrance. The rentals are pricey but worth it. We cooked most of our meals on the gas grill provided on the back patio. Having the hot tub was perfect to prevent sore muscles from hiking.

Perfect visit to Palo Duro Canyon
The Goodnight Cabin is an exceptional place to stay. My husband and I had everything we needed. We especially appreciated the regular coffee brewer ( in addition to the Keurig) since we are big coffee drinkers. The view from the patio, bedroom, and living room is spectacular, right on the rim of the canyon. We saw a shooting star on our last night as we sat in the hot tub under a starriest sky I’ve seen in a while. We came for the hiking but we will return for the cabin and it’s amenities and setting.

My wife and I loved the cabin both inside and out. Great views of the canyon right off the back porch. We even had a buck pay us a visit while having morning coffee on the patio. Great location to stay while visiting Palo Duro Canyon State Park which is a short hop in the car.
