About this property

Nature Lovers Family Friendly Farmhouse near Pickwick Lake

New high speed fiber optic internet!
Downing Hollow Farm is a 35 acre farm nestled in a hollow in the rolling hill country between Memphis and Nashville. Located in Middle Tennessee east of Savannah TN, Olivehill is 30 minutes from Pickwick Landing State Park and 30 minutes to Natchez Trace Parkway. It's a magical place full of sunshine and babbling creeks and mysterious forests. Watch the fireflies lift up from the pastures, hear the whippoorwill sing her lonesome song and enjoy the cool air drifting down through the hollow.

The farmhouse has central heat and air and is very comfortable throughout the seasons. Big windows allow lots of natural light to filter in and there's always a nice view from every window. The kitchen is fun to cook in cause there's room for friends and family to help out. We have lots of board games and lots of DVDs for adults and children. Two porches to relax on, the back porch is screened in where one can hear the babbling creek a stones throw away, and the front porch looks out over the green pastures and the wooded ridges in the distance. Bring your dogs and your instruments and just kick back and enjoy the peacefulness of the hollow. I also have an outdoor wood-fired oven, fire pit, charcoal grill and a hammock that guests can use. Through the summer, you’ll encounter migratory and native birds, hummingbirds, butterflies, lizards, raccoons, groundhogs, foxes, deer and owls along the paths cut through the pastures of wildflowers. Yes, and the occasional snake. Lot's of hiking around the property and a small waterfall about 45 min hike along the creek.
Guest access
Our country road is paved well in spots, bumpy in some spots. GPS may take you on a wrong turn so please ask for driving directions. Our driveway is a grassy lane leading way, way back into the hollow. Take it easy there for sure! There are outdoor security cameras at the entrance to the driveway, the barn and the greenhouse. They are actively monitored for vehicles coming and going.
Downing Hollow Farm is located 6 miles off the the Trail of Tears National Scenic Highway and 30 minutes from the Natchez Trace Parkway. Canoeing and kayaking just 6 miles down the road. If you are a Civil War buff then Hardin County is the place to be. Shiloh National Park and Battlefields are an easy drive just 30 minutes away from the farm. Even closer is the Tennessee River Museum in Savannah and the Crump Flea Market across the Tennessee River from Savannah. Catch record-breaking catfish in the waters of Pickwick Lake at Pickwick Landing State Park, 30 miles away. There you can access swimming areas, boat rentals, jump off waterfalls, golf and eat fried catfish and hushpuppies at the local restaurants.
Other things to note
There will sometimes be guests staying in our nearby tiny cottage.

Relaxation and Rejuvenation in complete beauty!
This house was exactly what we needed to get away from our everyday life. I have never felt so at home while on a vacation. It had the amenities, while feeling so disconnected. Lori is so amazing as a host. I hope my future allows me the chance to come back.

Wonderful weekend getaway
Great place to step back and spend some quality time with your family. Beautiful house and land the only bad thing could also be seen as a good thing and that is that there is absolutely nothing around so if you need something youre looking and a 30-45 minute drive one way or but great place. Great host Lori was woderful!

Sister's road trip
My sister and I decided to take a road trip on our way to see my son and family. I found this property and immediately thought it would be perfect for our trip. It ended up being a little out of the way but we felt it was worth the drive. My only fault was it was raining so we didn't get to wander. Thanks Lori for your hospitality. We sincerely enjoyed our stay.

Serene Country Escape
We loved this place and felt right at home. I got up early each morning to enjoy watching the fog rise over the pasture and sip chai tea on the front porch. The location is very remote and peaceful. Expect ample opportunity to unplug. Lori was very helpful and responsive. We would love to stay here again.

Remote paradise with fiber optic internet
Charming farmhouse surrounded by forested beauty on three sides and a picturesque pasture of cattle to the front. Yet it has FIBER OPTIC INTERNET SERVICE with blazing fast download (275 Mbps) and upload (239 Mbps) speeds. Perfect for work-from-homers who needs a scenery change or a place to let the kids blow off steam. Well equipped kitchen. Endless hot hot water. Extensive board game closet for family fun. Comfortable with upstairs and downstairs zoned HVAC. Comfortable beds. Roomy bathrooms. Light-filled rooms. Washer/dryer ready to go. It's like Grandma's house, but with all the conveniences, nestled in pristine nature. A tiny creek is literally 20 feet from the corner of the house. Beautiful screened back porch with two twin beds for afternoon naps. Definitely a repeatable experience if you want old world charm, beautiful scenery, yet modern conveniences.

Place of complete relaxation
IT WAS AMAZING!! From the bumpy country road to get there. To the gorgeous house itself. Sipping tea on the front porch watching the fog lift, to incredible night sky’s. The kitchen is well appointed and we spent so much time just enjoying cooking. The House was just quiet and relaxing. The host was so nice and welcoming. The only con we can think of, is we had to leave:(

Great place, great host, but remote
This is a great place to retreat if you come and stay on property. We were looking at houses for a friend so it was a little far out to come to after each house hunting trip

A peaceful amazing getaway...
Tons of land to explore. My family had an amazing time doing just that! What a pandemic friendly getaway! The property is just breathtaking. I am itching to come back when it's all green and everything is in bloom. However what was amazing about experiencing the property this time of year was getting to enjoy all the natural features of the area that would otherwise be hidden in the lush foliage. Lori was so pleasant from start to finish. We were there for Christmas and she was kind enough to decorate and make the place feel festive! If you love nature and love to explore, this is a great place to do so.

Quiet. Tranquil. Plenty of places to roam. Comfortable beds. Well appointed kitchen. Enough reading material to last years, Everything you can need. I could have happily hung out here indefinitely. Our aging dog Sam had a new lease on life roaming the far,.
